I often paint when on containerships. There I had to use my imagination as my ship, with hundreds more, were stranded off Shanghai in a 48 hours fog. Ultimately, we were diverted elsewhere. Painted by artists from a containership in Shanghai in 2013
Taz was my dog at the time. A wonderful boy.
I have quite a few ship paintings. I have often travelled on containerships. I’m glad I’m easily amused – I love nearing a port , especially if it’s a part of the world new to me . The pilot comes aboard. He or she is then boss of the ship. I ask politely if I may stay on the Bridge and watch. You keep out of the way. It’s not easy getting a big ship through obstacles and traffic and landing it gently to the wharf. Often you end up with the best view in town , right alongside the city . The luckier of the crew disembark into the hands of loved ones , or soon to become loved ones. I plot my own celibate adventures ashore.
Again, my fascination with the outback. Here perhaps a river flows through the land. To me the land and hills remain proud, mystical and unowned despite the transient development.
