On Wharf, Salerno, At Night, Anxious

Don’t worry, he made it. In fact it was me. I get scared at just about everything. I just look at the painting and still feel unsafe. In 1976 I got the boot from the Boarding House , aged 15. I was moved to live with my brother and cousin , both 4 years older. We regularly , very regularly, dined on takeaway chicken from the Red Rooster in Norwood , 2 streets away. From stage left entered the Sydneham Road Stabber . Sydneham Road was between us and the Red Rooster . The Stabber attacked at night and often enough to gain the moniker. We would cut cards to see who’d make the run for chicken. Always , always , always I would lose.
