This recent find has had the archaeological world abuzz. And not without controversy, even rancour. The painting, on slate , is believed to be from the Palaeolithic period, which as you know is also called the Old Stone Age. Experts, being experts, disagree markedly on the significance of the images. They even disagree on which way is up and which is down, if you can believe it.
| One school says it is nothing more than a playful, although not frivolous, painting for the community – perhaps a piece done for a school fund-raising fate, or a child’s birthday. To that I say perhaps , but I’m no expert.. The second school, who I might add have a high opinion of themselves and their academia, say it is the beginnings of religion. |
